So it's officially Spring! Hooray!
I wanted to share some pics from my birthday. I spent the week before making some flowery decorations. The garland was made with baker's twine and tissue paper in 3 colors.
I found 3 paper lanterns in various sizes and we covered them in tissue paper. The peachy one was covered in circles, the green in a leaf shape and the ivory one was covered in scrunched circles. I love these so much. I still haven't taken them down. I think they can stay up for Easter, don't you? This was such a fun project. I love love love tissue paper. When I was growing up, I had a serious love for tissue paper. That love is still strong.
The cake was amazing! We used the white cake recipe from Baking Illustrated. Again, I can't emphasize enough how much I love this book. We didn't use the raspberry filling and instead opted for butter cream frosting with orange zest. The cake itself has vanilla and almond extract so the subtle orange flavor paired perfectly. The cake was frosted with plain vanilla buttercream. In case you're wondering, the cake was inspired by the beautiful cakes by nikole herriott. Jenny did a wonderful job piping the frosting after about 20 attempts at the perfect curlicue.
